Booming Beirut

By Ian

In Beirut last week for a couple of days and mightily impressed with the new growth in the city, new hotels just completed are Le Gray and the Four Seasons, both top quality.

I carried out a mixture of whisky tastings for bartenders, hotel staff, wholesalers and consumers, everyone was hungry for information on Single Malt Whisky.

The night scene is very busy and just coming into high season with visitors from the gulf states, I`m surprised they don`t get more visitors from Europe as Beirut has become very safe to visit.

During my short stay I was made very welcome, enjoyed the Lebanese food, very healthy and took in the sights. I did not make it out to the old ruins built by the Phoenicians, one of the most advanced peoples of their time, next visit maybe.  All said and done I can`t wait to go back and see my new friends in what has to be one of the most amazing places to visit in the world right now.
